Regardless of the season, Laguna Beach is a Southern California gem. The secluded cove beaches make it one of our favorite corners of the coast. As summer transitions to fall across the US, Laguna stays warm just a little bit longer. When the summer crowds recede, September can be one of the most wonderful times to visit.
Where to Stay
To be in Laguna is to smell the salt air, hear the waves, and walk the beach in the morning. We stay at the Casa Loma so we can get this experience.
The boutique hotel is perched on the shore in downtown Laguna, with a charming coastal-inspired decor. Our favorite routine is having our coffee oceanside and then strolling the beach.
What to Do
We come to Laguna for the beaches, but the vibrant town is also known for its boutiques, art scene, and food.
Each beach in Laguna is unique; unlike other stretches of SoCal coastline where the sand goes on for miles, Laguna's coves feel more private, most only accessible by street parking and often a bit of a walk. Do take advantage of the free trolley that stops along the PCH, giving you access to nearly everywhere you'll want to go.
On our list of top beaches, and yes, we have been to them all over the years, are the following.
Victoria Beach – our favorite. Tucked away from downtown and yet large enough to always find a place to lay your towel. You may have heard of this beach due to its infamous pirate tower and stone pool in the ocean that fills with water at high tide. It's a beautiful place to walk in the morning and explore the tide pools.
Treasure Island – right off of the Montage resort. We love coming here to walk the gardens of the Montage as we stroll to the beach. Treasure Island is a wonderful perch for watching sunset.
Woods Cove – closer to downtown, this hidden nook can be a favorite when other beaches are crowded. Or a great beach to stop by after a walk around downtown.
Salt Creek – an easy escape for sunset and a bite to eat. We come here in the evening often to watch surfing or when we want a long beach day, but with easy access to bathrooms and food. The beach conveniently has a beachside restaurant, Young’s Beach Shack, that offers a variety of delicious bites.
When we're in town over a Sunday, we always make it a point to visit their Farmers Market. The robust market has the best locally grown produce, flowers, and homemade products. A great place to grab fruits or snacks for the beach.
When we want a break from the sun, the downtown offers iconic coastal boutiques. We never miss a stop in the following stores.

The best part about Laguna Beach is spending time exploring; you'll be sure to find hidden gems — whether it be boutiques, hikes, or beaches. Hop on the trolley and get a tour of the area!
Where to Eat
Laguna Beach does a good job of offering a mix of restaurants, but in theme with our beach vacation, we typically opt for more relaxed settings that pair well with a white linen dress post-swim.
Ahba – off the PCH, this casual spot is always bursting with energy. A great restaurant to eat outside, enjoy the evening, and maybe catch sunset afterwards across the street.
The Taco Stand – when we're in Laguna, we eat a lot of tacos. This place has become one of our favorite grab-and-go stops. We love it for its quality of food and the salsa bar!
Zinc Cafe – a sweet little cafe for coffee or lunch. Right downtown, we like this place before shopping.
Jedidiah Coffee – a favorite for coffee that's just a short walk away from the Casa Loma hotel.
Alohana Acai Bowls & Coffee – we stop here before the beach often. A great option for a classic acai bowl to go.
